Most studies included post-lingual adult cochlear implant (CI) users with an average duration of CI use of 4.1 years. Overall, there were mixed findings regarding the impact of cochlear implantation on improved environmental sound perception. The authors noted that large participant variability and assessment limitations may have contributed to poor outcomes with further research using ecologically relevant assessment methods warranted.
