The following is Level B recommendations were suggested for individuals with DoC:

Adult patients with severe DoC secondary to acute brain injury should receive multiprofessional neurological rehabilitation.

These individuals should have a sufficient length of stay within an inpatient neurological rehabilitation program in the acute stage, and be offered rehabilitation in the chronic phase.

Clinical tools, such as the CRS-R, should be used to assess the level of consciousness rather than solely using scales assessing independence in activities of daily living. This allows for clinicians to estimate the necessary duration of rehabilitation.

Multi-sensory stimulation out to be performed and should include stimuli with high emotional or autobiographical relevance.

Music therapy and auditory stimulation with biographical salience should be used.
