Nine of the 24 studies investigated the social validity of social story strategies. Findings indicated generally positive feedback for social stories. Teachers may prefer modifiable social stories and/or using computer programs such as PowerPoint.
Results indicated that social story strategies yielded positive short-term changes in prosocial skills (e.g., appropriate play with peers, initiating responses), functional skills (e.g., handwashing), and disruptive behaviors (e.g., shouting, staring); however, long-term effects were unknown.
