<div>For the purpose of treatment planning, adults with prolonged disorders of consciousness should participate in assessment at 6 months post-injury, 12 months post- injury, and annually thereafter as needed (Recommendation E1/2).</div>
<div>Adults who remain in a state of disordered consciousness for more than 4 weeks following severe brain injury should be referred to or transferred to a specialized unit with multidisciplinary assessment/management for rehabilitation. Key disciplines include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, neuropsychology, nursing, and rehabilitation medicine (Recommendation E1/2). </div>
