Cognitive training showed small to moderate positive effects on global communication (Standard Mean Difference [SMD]: 0.42, 95% Cofidence Interval [CI]: 0.23, 0.62) and verbal semantic fluency (SMD: 0.52, 95% CI: 0.23, 0.81) in individuals with mild to moderate dementia when compared to a control intervention, but not when compared to alternative treatments (mindfulness, physical activity, counseling, etc.). However, confidence in many of these findings was low or very low due to unclear risk of bias in many included studies.
