Meta-analysis revealed the following correlations between the MSNQ and objective measures for individuals with MS:

Cognition: There was a significant, small association between the MNSQ and measures of cognition (r = -0.17).

Mood: There was a moderate, significant association between the MSNQ and measures of mood (r = 0.47).

QoL: One study reported a small to moderate association between the MSNQ and World Health Organization QoL (WHOQOL) scores for individuals with progressive MS (physical health [r = 0.165], psychological [r = 0.445], social relationship [r = 0.213], environment [r = 0.294]) and relapsing MS (physical health [r = 0.59], psychological [r = -0.467], social [r = 0.362], environment [r = 0.367]).

Overall, this review indicated that the MSNQ did not coordinate well with objective measures of cognition, with modest correlations between the MSNQ and measures of mood and QoL.

Limitations to this review include the lack of exploration of patient characteristics and their impact of assessment outcomes, potential for bias within self-reported measures, publication bias, and a lack of studies investigating QoL measures. Additional research is indicated.
