"Overall, the results of the present review indicate that challenging behavior often recurs following treatment with [functional communication training] FCT, suggesting the importance of continuing the implementation of FCT to the extent possible" (p. 236). Results indicated instruction in the child’s first language and absence/presence of stimuli associated with the intervention can decrease the chances of resurgence of challenging behaviors.
