<div>Orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) showed promise "in reducing the risk of TMD aggravation, lowering pain sensitivity to muscles' palpation, and improving the range of mandibular movements, thus positively impacting oral functions" (p. 7). OMT provided by an SLP incorporated techniques such as thermotherapy, relaxation, massotherapy, myotherapy, and functional training of oral functions. Additionally, the authors noted the use of lasers and electrostimulation as a potential adjunct TMD therapy that could be administered by a multidisciplinary team in settings outside the United States.</div>

<div>Limitations of this review include the heterogeneity of the included studies, small sample sizes, the lack of methodological rigor, the lack of information on dosage and duration, and the lack of long-term outcomes. Additional high-quality research is needed to investigate the lasting effects of OMT interventions for adults with TMD.</div>
