Findings demonstrated significant gains in functional communication (SMD=1.47) and repetition (SMD=0.45) following provision of melodic intonation therapy (MIT). A positive, but insignificant, effect was noted on naming, with no effect noted on comprehension. Limitations were heterogeneity among the outcomes between studies and scarcity of randomized controlled trials evaluating MIT. Further research is warranted.
