This guideline provides recommendations for educators teaching reading comprehension to students (grades kindergarten through third grade). Populations include students identified as struggling or at-risk readers.

Children (grades K-3) should be taught how to use reading comprehension strategies (Strong Evidence) and identify and use strategies to organize and identify text structure (Moderate Evidence). 

Children (grades K-3) should be taught reading comprehension using multiple genres of text and should be guided in text discussion to support instruction and comprehension (Minimal Evidence).
