This review identified several barriers to accessing services (e.g., Individualized Education Plans with communication goals) reported by families with a child on the autism spectrum. Out of the 8 included studies, five studies identified long wait times for evaluations and/or the start of intervention services, four studies mentioned language barriers, and four studies reported limitations in parents' health literacy. Other reported barriers included cultural differences, system inefficiencies, lack of familiarity with the system, and the cost of services.
