For individuals with mild-to-moderate dementia, group cognitive stimulation therapy can be used to improve cognition. Individual cognitive rehabilitation can be effective for more specific functional goals. Additional research is needed to assess its cost-effectiveness.

For individuals with mild-to-moderate dementia, "interventions in care homes require longer-term working with professionals after the initial education to sustain the intervention.... A combination of communication strategies and clear procedures to increase physical and social activity might reduce or prevent agitation in care homes" (p. 2717).
