A number of assistive technologies (e.g., word prediction software, text to speech software) were used to address reading, spelling, writing, and speech in children with varying etiologies. Despite the heterogeneity of interventions used and participants studied, the majority of finding were positive with improved literacy skills noted with use of assistive technology. Further research is needed to determine the most efficacious technology for students with special needs in specific age groups.
