Findings suggest that reality orientation alone is not effective in slowing down cognitive decline or improving cognitive function in people with dementia. Overall, skills training intervention or the mix of reality orientation and skills training appear to improve cognitive functioning, however, results are inconclusive. Due to the heterogeneity of included trials and unclear blinding and randomization methods, further research is warranted.
