<p>PES improved swallow function (SMD = -0.20) and increased the rate of nasogastric feeding tube removal (RR = 2.88) in adults with stroke-associated dysphagia. PES had no effect on hospital length of stay, presence of penetration/aspiration, or oral intake.<br><br>Limitations to this review include the potential of a slight publication bias, an overall lack of available research, and the lack of long-term data. Additional, high-quality studies are indicated. </p>
