"Despite its worldwide adoption, UNHS [Universal Newborn Hearing Screening] is yet to be established as a cost-effective investment" (p. 178). "There is a lack of evidence for the long-term costs and outcomes of these programs, and it is therefore premature to draw any conclusions about their cost-effectiveness. There is a clear need for further research before any policy recommendations can be made" (p. 179).
