This is a consensus-based guideline published by the Australian and New Zealand Professional Association for Transgender Health. It provides recommendations to maximize quality care to trans and gender diverse children and adolescents. <div>"[A]ssessment, speech therapy, and voice coaching by specialist speech pathologists with experience in treatment of adolescents with gender dysphoria can assist adolescents in the development of skills which enable them to communicate in a manner consistent with their gender identity" (p.14).</div>

<div>The roles of the speech pathologist caring for adolescents with gender dysphoria may include:</div> <ul> <li>supportive exploration of the adolescent&rsquo;s own voice and communication style considering the changes that occur during transition;</li> <li>education regarding voice development, vocal health and effective communication;&nbsp;</li> <li>teaching efficient voice production focusing on gender specific characteristics and listener perceptions; and</li> <li>offering training options, including self-guided practice and telehealth consultations where available.</li> </ul>
