This review investigates the effects of writing instruction that teaches students to express ideas in written form on written expression outcomes in children with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Overall, the findings from this review support the use of strategy instruction (e.g., developing plans or composing lengthy texts) to teach writing skills to students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Future research is warranted to determine the effects of specific strategy instruction methods or other intervention methods to teach writing to this population.
