For individuals with hearing loss, the Ponto osseointegrated hearing aid device system was found to consistently improve hearing when compared to unaided hearing for both audibility and speech recognition. "The average Ponto patient experienced an improvement in hearing of 35 dB" (p. 10). Across seven studies, the average effective gain was 6.7 dB. "98% (172 of 176 patients) reported an improvement in quality of life after Ponto surgery, as measured with the [Glasgow benefit inventory] GBI questionnaire. The average reported GBI score was 32.6 points" (p. 10). Overall, patients experienced rare and minor complications.
