Findings demonstrated a very low to moderate level of evidence to support for the use of auditory training (AT) in adults with cochlear implants. All included studies demonstrated significant improvements in at least one outcome measure for this population following various AT treatments. However, due to lack of adequate controls in a majority of included studies, only 2 out of 10 demonstrated auditory improvements (e.g., sentence recognition in noise or phoneme identification) that could be attributed to AT alone. Further high-quality research is needed to determine the true efficacy of AT for adults with cochlear implants.
