This systematic review and meta-analysis investigates the effect of oromyofunctional therapy (OMT) for adults with obstructive sleep apnea. Of note, while obstructive sleep apnea measurement and outcomes are not within the speech-language pathologist's scope of practice, providing OMT is within the purview of the speech-language pathologist.

24, with 15 included in meta-analysis

Findings demonstrated that oromyofunctional therapy (OMT) was associated with positive outcomes regarding apnea-hypopnea index scores, lowest oxygen saturation, and Epworth sleepiness scale in adults over the age of 18. Limitations to this review include small sample sizes, lack of maintenance studies, and potential publication bias. Further research is warranted.
