Individuals reported several losses associated with social eating and drinking following head and neck cancer treatment, including a loss of confidence to eat socially, a loss of taking part in social events, and a loss of family togetherness. Individuals often reported they were more likely to receive support from close family/friends rather than a healthcare professional. Findings from limited evidence indicate that better support from healthcare professionals (e.g., self-management strategies, education) are needed to respond to swallowing difficulties post treatment.
