"In four of these studies, no statistically significant difference was identified between the Semont maneuver and the Epley maneuver. In other words, the Semont maneuver was equally as effective at treating posterior canal canalithiasis as the Epley maneuver was. The other two studies found that the Epley maneuver was significantly more effective than the Semont maneuver during some of the re-evaluations" (p. 105). In cases when the patient has a history of cervical pathology (e.g., disk herniation, trauma), the Semont maneuver may be a safer treatment option than the Epley maneuver.
