Two studies found that people with dementia are capable of learning to use electronic memory aids and two studies found that that these devices are potentially useful to people with dementia and their caregivers. Although this review highlighted many potential benefits to electronic memory aid usage, these benefits are not well established by empirical studies. Small sample sizes, few studies conducted in users' home environments, and the focus on the effectiveness of the electronic memory aid, rather than outcomes for users (such as improved daily functioning, quality of life, or social connectedness) indicate that further research is warranted.
