Parents of children on the autism spectrum reported needing time to adjust their own expectations and behaviors following diagnosis before buying into clinician recommendations. When present, professionals' poor manner, incomplete information, and reduced coordination and/or management had a significantly negative impact on parental experience, with a resulting worsening of anxiety and fear noted.
