This meta-analysis examines the diagnostic accuracy of different scoring methods of the clock drawing test to detect dementia. Although speech-language pathologists do not diagnose dementia, findings from this review may be useful for identifying tools for detection of cognitive impairments in this population.

Of the seven scoring methods examined, results indicate that the Schulman scoring system (sensitivity 82%, specificity 75.7%, area under curve 0.857) was the most useful in screening for dementia in the general elderly population. Due to limited literature eliminating meta-analysis for one scoring system and the overall heterogeneity of included studies, further research is warranted.
