This guideline from the International Microtia and Atresia Workgroup provides consensus-based recommendations for multidisciplinary team members, patients, and patients' families and caregivers on the management of functional ear reconstruction in all individuals with microtia and aural atresia. Recommendations within the scope of audiology are included in this summary.
International Microtia and Atresia Workgroup
For children five years of age and older with total atresia, bone conduction hearing devices should be proposed particularly for children with bilateral aural atresia. Decisions on bone conduction hearing devices for children with unilateral aural atresia should be made by the family in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
