Findings demonstrated that the use of ultrasound examination to measure hyoid bone displacement amplitude had a pooled interrater reliability of 0.858 and intrarater reliability of 0.968. These results should be interpreted with caution due to small sample sizes, an overall paucity of evidence, and heterogeneity in population studied (e.g., non-dysphagic patients, patients with dysphagia), types of swallows observed (e.g., saliva swallows, 5 ml liquid swallows), and other study parameters (e.g., time interval between rater analyses, frames per second, training protocols). Further research is indicated.
