This systematic review investigates the effects of treatments for focal and generalized dystonia. Much of the review examines the effects of medical and surgical management of dystonia, but speech-language pathology services are briefly addressed.

<div>Results were unclear whether any of the following treatments were effective in improving quality of life for people with adductor spasmodic dysphonia:</div> <ul> <li>Voice therapy plus botulinum A toxin injections;</li> <li>Sham voice therapy plus botulinum A toxin injections; and</li> <li>Botulinum A toxin injections only (Very Low Quality Evidence).</li> </ul> <div>No RCTs or systematic reviews of RCTs were found addressing speech-language pathology intervention in generalized dystonia.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Additional research is indicated due to an overall lack of studies.&nbsp;</div>
