The following challenges and obstacles were reported for the use of game-based speech therapy for children with speech disorders: difficulties with voice, syllable, and speech recognition; disagreement in clinician and game judgements regarding correct articulation; impact of ambient and environmental noise; internet connectivity issues; difficulty of gameplay or controller use; dependency on instructors or inadequate instruction impacting performance; discomfort of or unwillingness to wear headset microphone; poor feedback of performance within games; lack of levels within games; lack of portability of the game system; and lack of accessibility.
