This guideline provides recommendations for the screening of cognitive impairments in older adults. It is supported by Fitzpatrick-Lewis et al.'s 2015 Treatment for Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Screening for cognitive impairments is not recommended for asymptomatic older adults [(65 years or older)] (Strong recommendation; low-quality evidence; p. 40). The recommendation does not apply when there are concerns or symptoms of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia. Further research is needed to identify screening tools for MCI as "available screening tools for [MCI] may incorrectly classify individuals as having the condition (e.g., about 1 in 8 to 10 people with the MMSE and 1 in 4 with MoCA)" (p. 45).
