Findings demonstrated that the overall quality and quantity of evidence was insufficient to make statements regarding the clinical utility of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to detect dementia in individuals across various healthcare settings. Sensitivity was noted to be 0.94-1.00, however a low specificity of 0.50-0.60 was noted. Generally small sample sizes, incomplete reporting of methodology, and heterogeneity between studies were limitations to this review, and further research is indicated to determine the overall clinical utility of the MoCA for this population.
