Guidelines on the audiological monitoring stage of neonatal hearing screening provide inconsistent recommendations for monitoring procedures; however, the most commonly recommended monitoring procedures include auditory brainstem response (ABR) and behavioral assessment.

Guidelines on neonatal hearing screening recommend audiological monitoring for children with risk factors for hearing loss, particularly for children with cytomegalovirus.

The majority of guidelines on neonatal hearing screening recommend audiological monitoring for children with risk factors for hearing loss on an annual basis until at least 3 years old; however, some guidelines recommend monitoring every 6 months. After 3 years of age, guidelines recommend long-term monitoring for children with exposure to ototoxic drug treatment.
