"Of the tools with a large evidence base, two tools, [Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised] ADI-R and [Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule] ADOS, display the highest sensitivity and specificity, particularly when used in combination. Current ‘gold standard’ diagnosis is based on [multi-disciplinary team] assessment and clinical judgement using the DSM- IV or ICD-10 criteria. When combined, the ADI-R and ADOS revealed levels of accuracy comparable to the correct classification rates for the current 'gold standard' diagnostic procedure" (p. 337).
