Randomized controlled trials

Five randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were found supporting the use of memory strategy/support training in individuals with MCI. Specific interventions within studies varied, including mnemonics, external memory aids (e.g., lists, calendars), cognitive restructuring, and education. Three of the five RCTs demonstrated statistical significance. Overall "individuals with MCI who receive training on strategies/supports to increase memory ability show significant functional gains on completion of ADLs, memory recall tasks, everyday memory tasks such as learning new names, and knowledge and use of memory strategies at post-testing" (p. iii).
