Cross-sectional studies

6 studies; 5 assessment instruments

Six studies examined five assessment instruments (the Clock Drawing Test, the Cognitive Performance Scale, the Mini-Mental Status Examination, the Time and Change Test, and Six-Item Cognitive Impairment Test). Varying degrees of sensitivity and specificity were reported across studies (sensitivity = 44-88%; specificity = 56-96%). Given the small number of studies and poor methodological quality, no instruments were found to be optimal for the diagnosis of dementia or MCI in inpatient settings. Further research is warranted.
