For adults with oropharyngeal dysphagia who are unlikely to improve, three studies investigating the outcomes of eating and drinking with acknowledged risk (EDAR) protocols found improvements for the following benchmarks: documentation of feeding/nutrition plans, days nil-by-mouth without artificial nutrition, and documentation of mental capacity assessments. These studies did not investigate length of hospital stay or feedback from the patient, family/carers, or staff. Due to the paucity of research on EDAR, additional research on patient experience and quality of life is suggested.
