Three studies revealed significant positive effect using the Gufoni maneuver with patients with lateral canal benign paroxysmal positioning vertigo (BPPV) with geotropic nystagmus. Best treatment results were found directly after the second application of the Gufoni maneuver. The Gufoni maneuver resulted in more effective results when compared to sham maneuvers or vestibular suppressants. Evidence is lacking comparing the efficacy of the Gufoni maneuver to vertigo outcomes of alternative maneuvers (e.g., barbecue roll, forced prolonged position).
