This systematic review explores the impact of personally tailored activities on psychosocial outcomes for people with dementia living in the community. Of note, while the treatments within this review and not specific to speech-language pathology (SLP) scope, the overarching conclusions can be applied to SLP practice.

Findings demonstrated the use of personally tailored activities was associated with reducing challenging behaviors and slightly improving quality of life in community-dwelling adults with dementia (Low Certainty of Evidence). Little to no effect was noted for the impact of personally tailored activities on depression, affect, passivity, or engagement based on a limited number of studies (Low Certainty of Evidence). A slight positive effect on caregiver distress and little or no effect on caregiver burden, quality of life, and depression was additionally noted. Limitations to this review included low quality of evidence with significant risk of bias.
