No studies were found to investigate the outcomes and cost-effectiveness of a home program using less direct speech-language or with lower dosage rate than traditional therapy.
Results indicated that parent-implemented home programs and traditional therapy have similar effectiveness in improving speech and language outcomes and were more effective than no intervention. The included studies suggested that home programs can be effective if the dosage/intensity of the intervention is similar to or exceeds traditional therapy, if adequate direct parent training is provided, and the therapist stays in frequent contact with the family.
