Only six of the 22 included studies reported screening instruments with cultural adaptations or changes to address cultural differences in China and its surrounding regions. The following screening tools were reported to have minor changes to scale items, cutoff scores, or removal of items from the measure:

Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (CM-CHAT);

First Year Inventory (FYI);

Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS);

Autism Spectrum Rating Scale (ASRS);

Taiwan version of the Screening Tool for Autism in Two-Year-Olds (T-STAT).

Overall, results indicated Level 1 population-based screening tools (e.g., Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers) and Level 2 clinic-based tools (e.g., Taiwan version of the Screening Tool for Autism in Two-Year-Olds, Autism Spectrum Rating Scale) to have fair to good sensitivity (0.71 to 0.95) and specificity (0.77 to 0.97); however, findings were limited due to insufficient data.
