This systematic review compares the sensitivity and specificity of using a combination of diagnostic tools including extratympanic electrocochleography (ECochG) summating/action potential (SP/AP) ratio to extratympanic ECochG SP/AP ratio test alone to accurately diagnose individuals with Meniere's Disease.
For diagnosing individuals with Meniere's Disease, five studies found that the use of a combination of diagnostic measures (i.e., Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emission (DPOAE) posture induced shift or vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) and extratympanic electrocochleography (ECochG) summating/action potentials (SP/AP)) ratio does not provide greater diagnostic accuracy than using the extratympanic ECochG SP/AP ratio test alone. The sensitivity of extratympanic ECochG SP/AP ratio alone was found to be 47.6%, and the specificity was 83.8%. Due to the small sample size, additional research is warranted.
