This systematic review investigates the effect of social skills programs in people with schizophrenia. This review investigated the outcomes of social functioning, rehospitalization, mental state, and global state; however, social functioning is the only outcome within the scope of a speech-language pathologist.

Included studies investigating the effects of social skills training programs used different scales to report on social functioning outcomes. Results indicated no difference between those receiving social skills training and those in the control groups. The review authors cautioned that social skills training programs for people with schizophrenia remain unproven due to limited evidence.
