The included studies demonstrated the Gugging Swallowing Screen (GUSS) to have a pooled sensitivity of 0.97 and a pooled specificity of 0.67. The high sensitivity of the tool indicated the GUSS accurately screens most of the patients with high aspiration risk. "These results show that the GUSS is a reliable screening tool in clinical practice for the detection of dysphagia and aspiration risk in patients with [acute] stroke" (p. 6).
