"The review has suggested, from a small number of studies with and without random treatment allocation, that parent training does work to produce a positive effect on children’s social communication behaviour, parental performance and parent-child interactions.... None of the studies of early intervention yet reported in the autism literature is an adequately designed study of effectiveness" (p. 127).
