Only one study examined the use of motivational interviewing on patient satisfaction using the International Outcome Inventory for Hearing Aids. While significant improvement in patient satisfaction was reported after motivational interviewing, no differences were found when compared to standard audiological care. Given that the findings were limited to one study, further research is warranted.

Three studies reported positive effects of motivational interviewing on data-logged hours of hearing aid use. However, no significant differences were found when compared to standard audiological care. Study limitations included small number of participants and risk of bias. Therefore, further research is needed to determine the effects of motivational interviewing on hearing aid use in adult populations.
