Preliminary findings suggested that increased dose may be associated with larger improvement in language and communication measures, but the amount of improvement may lessen over time. The authors indicated that a meta-analysis could not be completed due to heterogeneity in treatments and outcomes across studies. Further research is warranted to determine dose effects of behavioral interventions following aphasia post stroke. Additional research is also needed to determine the impact of time post stroke on dose effects and whether specific person-level and treatment-level characteristics help explain variability in dose-response relationships.
