This is systematic review investigates literacy interventions in adults with intellectual disabilities or other developmental disabilities (e.g., autism, Down syndrome).
Findings revealed that many of the included studies focused on multiple literacy targets and combined multiple instructional strategies or approaches into the intervention package. "The findings of this review substantiate that adults with extensive support needs can acquire and develop literacy knowledge across adulthood…. Much more must be learned about how to structure literacy education in ways that are efficient, effective, and motivating" (p. 182).
