Findings demonstrated that animation in augmentative and alternative communication was associated with improved symbol understanding for children on the autism spectrum; however, results were inconclusive for children with intellectual disability. Limited findings demonstrated an association between the use of animation with dynamic text and improvements in sight word acquisition for children on the autism spectrum. However, due to the interconnectedness of dynamic text and speech output, these effects cannot be separated.
