"Five [studies] reported improvements in cognition after [cochlear] implantation (CI) across all cognitive domains: learning and memory, language, perceptual-motor function, executive function, and complex attention" (p. 248) in older adults with severe-to-profound, bilateral hearing loss. "Only one study ... observed no significant change in cognitive performance after implantation" (p. 249). Although five out of the six studies included in this review reported cognitive improvements after CI, "the results were exposed to several risks of bias and are, therefore, considered inconclusive" (p. 251).
